EXAMS

Vision & Eye Health Exams

During a comprehensive eye examination Dr. Kilgo will determine the spectacle prescription that gives you the best vision. She will also check color vision, depth perception and how well your eyes track and work together. This is especially important with school age children because it affects their reading ability. A yearly eye examination is an integral part of your preventative health care. Like most health conditions eye diseases should be diagnosed and treated as early as possible. Many eye diseases have no obvious symptoms during the early stages.

Dr. Kilgo will perform a health evaluation checking your eyes for common eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration and dry eyes.

LASIK

Lasik/PRK

LASIK and PRK are types of refractive eye surgery that corrects nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism by reshaping the cornea. Both can reduce your need for eyeglasses and contact lenses. Most common side effects after surgery are glare and dryness. Dr. Kilgo can assess your refractive error, eye health and lifestyle to determine if you are a good candidate for LASIK or PRK. After surgery she will follow your eyes post-operatively for 12 months to evaluate your vision and eye health

STATE OF THE ART

Equipment

At Kilgo Eye Care we utilize advanced technology to evaluate your eyes and diagnose eye diseases.

Optical Coherence Tomography(OCT) uses light waves to take a cross-section image of the ten layers of the retina. These pictures help in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma and diseases of the retina such as diabetes and macular degeneration.

Visual Field Perimetry is used to find signs of vision loss or blind spots in a patient’s vision. The size and location of these blind spots can help diagnosis eye disease or a brain disorder. Visual field tests are used to diagnose and follow the progression of glaucoma.

Digital Fundus Cameras are used to capture a high resolution image of the interior surface of the retina. These images allow Dr. Kilgo to monitor changes in diabetic retinopathy, ocular hypertension, glaucoma and other ocular diseases.

Icare Tonometer measures the pressure in your eye without the need to instill drops in the eye and does not have that “startling” puff of air.

FITTINGS

Contact Lens Exams & Fittings

It is important when fitting contact lenses to determine which type of lens is optimal for your vision correction and your lifestyle. Because contact lenses are worn directly on the surface of the eye, we need to obtain precise measurements to insure a comfortable fit.

• Soft contact lenses allow oxygen to permeate through the lens material to maintain the health of the cornea. They are available in many designs and materials so Dr. Kilgo can determine which option will give you the best vision and comfort. Toric lenses correct astigmatism and require more time for fitting to achieve the best corrected vision. For our patients who wear bifocals there are multifocal contact lenses that correct both distance and near vision.

• Gas permeable contact lenses are made in many designs and offer some patients sharper vision; the biggest disadvantage is thy may take 2-3 days for your eyes to adapt and feel comfortable.

DRY EYE

Dry Eye Syndrome

Dry eye syndrome is a chronic condition that occurs when your eyes do not produce enough tears or the tears are of poor quality and are unable to keep the surface of the eye lubricated.

Risks factors include:
• Age, more common after age 50
• Contact lens wear
• Prolonged time on devices such as computers, tablets, cell phones
• Certain medications including antihistamines, antidepressants, HBP medications
• Exposure to wind or dry air
Symptoms include:
• Stinging or burning
• Eye redness
• Excessive tearing
• Sensation that something is in your eye
• Sensitivity to light
 Difficulty wearing contact lenses
• Blurred vision

Meibomian glands on the edge of your eyelids produce lipid that helps to reduce tear evaporation. If these glands become clogged, then the tears quickly evaporate and your eyes cannot maintain a steady supply of moisture.

LENSES

Advanced Lenses Technology

Once you have selected the frame that fits your face shape and your personality we look at the lens technology that is best for your prescription and lifestyle.

• Progressive lenses using digital processing allows you to see at all distances-distance, intermediate and near without an aggravating line.
• Anti-reflective lens treatments eliminate reflections from the front and the back surfaces of your eyeglass lenses. More light passes through the lens giving you sharper vision and less glare, especially when driving at night.
• Photochromic lenses darken outdoors when exposed to ultraviolet light and return to clear when indoors. The new Transitions Gen 8 lenses darken in seconds and return to clear faster than ever. They block damaging UVA and UVB rays and help to protect your eyes from harmful blue light.
• Polarized lenses contain a laminated filter that allows only vertically oriented rays of light to pass through. They reduce glare making images sharper and clearer. Polarized lenses are particularly helpful to fishermen allowing them to see into the water.
